What Is Organic?
Simply stated, organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.
Does It Cost More?
Yes, Organic products do cost more. But if you look at the long run, it will save you money. If you stay on your fast food chemical filled diet, then I can guarentee you that you'll end up going to doctors visits where you'll have several blood test, radiology and more. That will cost a fortune over the years. But, if you take care of yourself with healthy foods and products, then you'll save time and money with doctors and healthcare.
WHERE TO BUY ORGANIC?
Here in Tampa, we have a few choices. Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Publix, and other small mom & pop style health stores carry Organic products. Whole Foods is in almost every state. Go to http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/whole-foods-market to find a store nearest you.
Why Should I Become Organic?
Organic food is grown without hormones, pesticides and heavy chemicals. Our bodies were not designed to digest heavy chemicals and pesticides. And we certainly don't need more hormones in our bodies.
I believe the chemcials and hormones are also a LARGE contributor to our cancer crisis. If you watch the Gerson Miracle, Dr. Gerson found that by having a diet of pure vegetables and fruit prevented and cured cancer. Now, the government won't allow his treatment to be used in the U.S. so the Gerson Therapy Clinic is in Mexico and Europe. The pharmaceutical companies would go bankrupt with this therapy and therefore, the government won't allow it. They make a large profit from those pharmaceutical companies!
President Obama and The First Lady are advocates for healthy diets and organic foods. The First Lady built an organic farm at the White House. (see link below). Maybe someday, we'll stop the need for chemicals and hormones and get back to eating earth healthy organic foods.
This movie is what made us officially change to an organic lifestyle. It's amazing what happens with our foods without us even knowing! A MUST SEE!
Those annoying stickers on fruits and veggies tell you A LOT! 4 numbers mean they were conventionally grown, 5 numbers starting with number 8 means they are genetically modified (GMO), and 5 numbers starting with 9 means they were organically grown (no pesticides or nasty GMOs)
Support your local farmers! We buy from local produce stands for our fruits and vegetables. Large produce stands carry organic products too!! Local farmers tend to use way less pesticides due to cost so you're getting a better product at a cheaper price. And you're supporting your local area.
Up until the 1960s, virtually all beef was grass fed (meaning the cows roamed freely around chewing grass and keeping themselves healthy). After the sixties, factory farming came along and the animals became sick and sad. Cows spend a short time grazing and are then shoved into cramped pens and pumped with antibiotics, hormones and steroids to cope with the diseases and poor conditions. You are then consuming those hormones, steroids and antibiotics. Grass fed beef is lower in fat and higher in nutrients.
